Transformer Grid System Wrap Application Report
Project Details
The shrink-wrapping of 2 complete transformer fabrications in knock down form, for export from the
UK by road and then sea freight. In total, 32 fabricated units with 12 pallets of ancillary items were packed. This was to allow the remaining stages of construction to be completed in a subsidiary factory, to reduce congestion in their production plan.
Previous Problems
Parts would have been transported unprotected or in polythene wrapping, increasing the risk of corrosion through inadequate protection and running a high risk of water, paint and weather damage.
Revised Packaging Solution
One layer of INTERCEPT shrink-film and one layer of powershrink film were applied, to give maximum protection to these large units during transit via open back road and sea transport, and possible outdoor storage at destination site.
Benefits and Improvement
All units got to site in perfect condition, enabling a problem-free transition into the subsidiary factory’s
production schedule.
